The challenge is no longer accessing information but filtering and making sense of it in a way that enables better choices and actions. In this new era of Digital Darwinism, the ability to sense and respond in real time is no longer a competitive advantage; it\u2019s a necessity for survival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to enhance these capabilities, with generative AI acting as a \u201csense-able\u201d system that extracts insights from vast amounts of information, and agentic AI serving as a \u201cresponse-able\u201d system that acts based on those insights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, while AI can sense and respond, it is the human element that ensures AI\u2019s decisions are \u201csensible\u201d and its actions \u201cresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organizational Decision Factories<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every organization today is, at its core, a decision factory. The speed, accuracy, and adaptability of its decision-making defines its success.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generative AI and agentic AI supercharge this \u201cdecision-action\u201d capability in two ways:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Generative (sense-able) AI: <\/strong>By analyzing vast datasets, generative AI can identify patterns, summarize key insights, and generate options for decision-makers. It continuously refines its outputs based on context, making it an invaluable sensemaking tool for navigating complexity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Agentic (response-able) AI:<\/strong> Once a decision is made, agentic AI can act on it\u2014automating workflows, initiating processes, and adapting responses in real time. This minimizes bottlenecks and ensures decisions translate into swift execution.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These AI-driven capabilities are embedded within digital workflows, providing employees with instruction and guidance at the moment of need.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, despite AI\u2019s ability to sense and respond within the digital surround, it lacks judgment, ethics, and contextual understanding\u2014qualities that remain uniquely human.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s why humans in the loop are essential to ensure \u201csensible\u201d decision-making (determining the validity of AI\u2019s insights and ensuring they align with broader strategic and ethical considerations) and \u201cresponsible\u201d action (overseeing AI\u2019s actions to prevent unintended consequences and ensure accountability).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this \u201chumachine interface,\u201d AI augments human capability rather than replacing it. AI provides data-driven insights and automation, while humans apply wisdom, creativity, and ethical oversight. AI is powerful, but without human wisdom, it remains directionless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the digital age, leadership is not about controlling information; it is about making sense of complexity, responding with agility, and ensuring that AI advancements serve humanity rather than displace it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How the human element can ensure
