Nine out of 10 companies plan to move to some form of a hybrid-working model, according to a McKinsey survey, but most don\u2019t have a detailed plan yet on what it will look like or how they\u2019ll ensure fair treatment of remote workers. To help workers and job seekers understand whether or not a company will have a healthy hybrid work culture and environment, FlexJobs identified 10 red flags that could signal a hybrid company will become a toxic place to grow a career:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. There is no real plan for creating a functioning hybrid workforce within the company.<\/li>\n
  2. There are no senior leaders who work remotely.<\/li>\n
  3. Digital communication tools have not been prioritized.<\/li>\n
  4. Celebration, praise, and rewards only happen in the office.<\/li>\n
  5. Your manager doesn\u2019t have a solid communication plan for remote team members.<\/li>\n
  6. Team- or company-wide meetings are scheduled at odd hours.<\/li>\n
  7. Information isn\u2019t accessible.<\/li>\n
  8. There are few or no career paths for remote employees.<\/li>\n
  9. Employees are told they need to use paid time off (PTO) or take a pay cut to work remotely.<\/li>\n
  10. Remote workers aren\u2019t given the appropriate equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It\u2019s important to note that a toxic workplace may not have all 10 of these red flags. And if a company has one of these red flags, that\u2019s not necessarily proof of a toxic workplace, but rather an indication that the transition to hybrid is still bumpy.
