Your project plan? Your \u201cnice to have if I ever have time\u201d list? More than 10?<\/p>\n<p>Chances are, you are managing many people, places, and things\u2014on your own team, on other teams indirectly by influencing others (such as business partners), your leader, or your leader\u2019s leader. These people could be adjusting or changing too slowly for your liking.<\/p>\n<p>When I was in the military, I was taught to <strong><em>\u201cchange your 10%\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u2014which means to focus on the areas of your job and your life you can control, the ones you can affect and change. It doesn\u2019t mean ignoring the areas you dislike, or walking away from unfinished projects. It\u2019s more about focusing on your sphere of influence\u2014your strengths, your team, your knowledge\u2014and building from there.<\/p>\n<p>How can you do it? <strong>Prioritize your goals<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> What\u2019s important to your company, team, or yourself? <strong>Communicate<\/strong> <strong>those goals.<\/strong> Let your team know what your focus is\u2014for yourself and them. <strong>Repeat. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you work on changing your 10%, your peers work on changing their 10%, and someone down the hall changes his or her 10%&#8230;. eventually,
